Explore the Western Side of Volcan Barú

This full-day driving trip through the Chiriquí Highlands includes the towns of Volcán and Cerro Punta. Stops include an orchid sanctuary, a famous archaeological site, a 35 hectare vegetable farm, breathtaking canyon and river vistas. This Boquete sightseeing trip is a terrific opportunity to see the full range of geography in Western Panamá, including Barú in all his glory. Many expats prefer the sleepy vibe of Volcán to the tourist bustle of Boquete, so if you are considering relocation to Panamá, this side of the volcano is worth a visit.

General Information

This trip is a full day of exploring, involving drive time of 1.5 hours at the beginning and end of the day. Don’t worry, it won’t seem like a long time! Jason’s knowledge about the history and geography is vast, so there will be lots of conversation, as well as opportunities to stop along the way, to stretch your legs and take beautiful pictures.

Stops last from 45 minutes to 1.5 hours. The typically day accommodates 2-3 stops. Jason always includes a few special spots along the way!

You are encouraged to dress comfortably and wear walking shoes. A rain jacket is also a good idea, as a combination of mist and rain called bajareque is Western Panamá’s most common weather event. Cameras and binoculars are also welcome.

The day breaks for lunch at Kids World in Volcán. This is the only additional expense for guests during tour. Jason has found it is best to let each person choose the amount and type of food they want to eat, to accommodate special dietary needs, restrictions and allergies. If you have a large party and would like to organize a specific menu, or would like to pack a picnic to eat in a lovely spot, this is absolutely possible!
